Lois E. Kinney, 95, of Arkansas City, died Friday (March 5, 2010) at her residence. There will be no service as cremation has been effected. Interment services will be in the A.O.U.W. Cemetery in Alva , OK , on March 13th at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, March 11, from 5 to 8 p.m., at 1319 North 2nd Street, Arkansas City for a celebration of Lois' life. Lois Elaine Kinney was born December 18, 1914 in Cameron , MO. Her parents, Joe B. and May (Shelly) Cline, moved the family to Alva , OK in 1930 where Lois graduated from high school in 1932. She married Lawrence M. Kinney on March 8, 1934. They moved from Alva to Cherokee, OK in 1945 where he managed the A. C. Houston Lumber Co. In 1958, they moved to Arkansas City, Kansas where her husband served as manager of the A. C. Houston Lumber Co. until it closed. Lois and Lawrence were co-owners of Kinney's Self Service Laundry & Dry Cleaning at 117 W. Central & E-Z Way Laundry 1618 North Summit St. She retired in 1985. In Alva, she helped organize the Fidelis Class of First Methodist Church while her husband was a Prisoner of War in WWII. For a number of years, Lois and/or Lawrence drove dialysis patients and others to Wichita for treatment and/or doctors' appointments. They also drove many others in need of local transportation to and from Wichita (air travel) and Newton (train travel). Lois was an avid Bridge player and loved Duplicate Bridge and tournaments. Mrs. Kinney is survived by her two sons and their families: Bob & Anne Kinney of Sandia Park, NM and Don Kinney of Arkansas City; grandchildren Bill & Teresa Kinney and great-grandson Jackson of St. Joseph, MO; Michelle & Mark Davis of Pecos , NM, Jennifer Kinney and fiancéé Christopher Kindred of Tulsa , OK ; sister and her husband, Erl Lene and Joe Bozzacco of Boardman , OH . She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence in December 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister Jane Cline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the organization of your choice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
