Kenneth E. "Jeep" Czaplinski, 74, of Arkansas City, died Thursday (July 29, 2010) at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center of Arkansas City. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday (August 7, 2010) at the Church of Christ in Arkansas City. Cremation has been effected. Private burial will be in the Parker Cemetery. Jeep was born January 31, 1936, in Clearwater, to Robert and Lucille (Popp) Czaplinski. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School and Arkansas City Junior College (Cowley College). Jeep worked for the General Electric Jet Engine Maintenance Facility at Strother Field a few years before being called to serve in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany. Upon his return he went back to work at G.E. until his retirement in 1991. He married Glenda "Beth" Coffman on November 5, 1965 in Oklahoma City. Jeep was a longtime member of the Church of Christ. Jeep played semi-pro baseball for Beatrice foods out of Ponca City, and was a member of the Home National Bank AAU basketball team. Jeep also played on the B.W. T.V. softball team well into his 50's, playing along side his father for several years. Survivors include his wife Beth of the home; two sons Shawn and his wife Angie Czaplinski, Clark ans his wife Ashley Czaplinski; a brother Robert "Dutch" and his wife Helen Czaplinski; a sister Bess and her husband Jerry Ziegler; a sister-in-law Ann Vitosh all of Arkansas City; and three grandchildren Wyatt, Abigail and Cruz. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials have been established with the Cowley College Endowment Fund - Jodi Sanderholm Scholarship or the Flint Hill Christian Camp.
